Zinc react with iodine to form zinc(II) iodide, ZnI2. An amount of 50g of zinc, Zn and 50g of iodine, I2 are mixed to form zinc(II) iodide, ZnI2.
a) ASSUMING THAT THE REACTION GOES TO COMPLETION, DETERMINE WHICH REACTANT WILL BE COMPLETELY CONSUMED IN THE FORMATION OF ZINC(II) IODIDE.
b) HOW MANY GRAMS OF ZINC(II) IODIDE WILL BE PRODUCED?

Zn + I2 → ZnI2
RAM of Zn = 65
RMM of I2 = 126*2 = 252
Thus, 65 g Zn reacts with 252 g I2
Thus we can see that less Zn is required that I2.
So I2 will be completely consumed and Zn will be left.
Thus, 252 g I2 produces 317 g ZnI2
So, 50 g I2 produces (317*50/252) g ZnI2
=62.89 g (63 g approx.)
