Trying to be a Supply Teacher, What qualifications do I need?
My background:
I have a:
BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science
PG Diploma in Pharmacology + PG Certificate in Science Teaching (= MSc Science degree)
While I have been teaching Science at a Key Stage 3 level since January and now (since a few weeks ago), Key Stage 4 Science- at the same Saturday School.
I also have Cover Supervised for a few months (Ad-Hock) in Mainstream schools.
I can Cover supervise all I like but I have noticed that some of those times I am doing a Supply Teacher's job for about £5ph more than what I get from this! Yet I am told I am NOT qualified to be a Supply Teacher!
What qualifications and/or experience do you need to become a Supply Teacher? as I want to receive the wage I deserve after all my hard work!
I have applied for a 140 Hour-TEFL course, once I qualify; will this help me become one?
If not, why not??
What else can I do with my qualifications + the TEFL qualification? (in a career aspect)

The next time you cover in one of the mainstream schools, ask them. It might have to do with the lack of a teaching certificate. (PGCE) I lived and taught overseas for many years and I noticed that all the supply teachers in British schools were qualified teachers. (These days in the US you only need a pulse in some states) Once you get the TEFL qualification you could apply to foreign companies in your field
to teach English. You could also apply to private language schools. You might also think about applying to private or parochial schools rather than the state system.

You'll never become one, you lack the experience.
