How to take a number out of the date (excel)?

I am trying to get the number of the day when the date is written: month/day/year.

For example, 10/22/2013. I want to get the 22 out. I have dates from today back to 1/1/1983 and I need to take out the day. All dates are in the mm/dd/yyyy format

More examples:

1/1/1983: 1

5/30/2000: 30

11/21/2013: 21

    DAY()

    So if your date is in the cell A1, then the formula in B1 would be =DAY(A1)
