Is the current Microsoft Excel similar to the 2007 version?

I want to buy a book that will help me learn to use Microsoft Excel. However I have a 2007 version of Excel and don't want to buy a book that is not compatible to the version I have. I was wondering if the version's are similar enough that having a more outdated model will make a difference when the book doesn't match?

The books seem cheaper for the most up to date version for some reason, and I'm really trying to save money at the moment.

Is there much difference between them? Thanks!

To be honest, I wouldnt bother buying a book. There are plenty of tutorials on youtube that show you how to use excel. Search for ExcelIsFun and look at his beginer videos, really halped me understand how to use it. I use 2007 myself and excel and 2013 is different with newer features though the ribbon layeout is similar

The layout of where the features are is different in Excel 2010/2013 vs Excel 2007. So if you buy a book for Excel 2010/2013 and try to apply it to your Excel 2007 you're going to get confused when it tells you to click a certain place. In as far as functionality goes, no, there certainly is no difference (except that each new version has newer features than it's predecessor).

There are still Excel 2007 books on the market. Just do an internet search and you'll see.

Your library probably has a book about the older version. Or check out used book stores. I'd buy the book for the version you've got.
