What's so wrong with this?

In my last question I asked for some people's help on a homework assignment, and for the assignment I need names. So I asked the people to put the FIRST names of their kids down so it would be less like cheating. People FREAKED!! I don't understand what the huge deal about putting your kid's first name on a site to help someone with homework!! I can understand me asking for someone's full name, address, age, and social security number, but their FIRST name?!?! Don't be so dam paranoid everyone! I'm not a pedophile either. So don't start that.

Sorry, but you cannot ask others for personal information here. It's just not allowed, and to be honest, what someone's children are named is none of your business.

It's nothing to do with paranoia, and everything to do with a parent's right to protect his/her child(ren) from strangers, even if you're harmless as a puppy.

That would be a chat violation.

Questions must be of interest to the community, avoid those solely of personal interest, they must be advice-seeking and knowledge-worthy. Asking for opinions or "what do you think" unless knowledge-seeking are pretty much always violations. as are always "rate" me type questions.

Well, if your data collection requires a name, then you could just have well made one up yourself. There is no need for others to reveal that information.
