Christians say God is Forgiving and Just, but he causes people to suffer eternally for finite transgression?
That's neither forgiving nor just.
BQ: Wouldn't it make more sense if hell was a prison sentence of sorts? Serve time for your crimes and then go to heaven.

Just because the transgression happened in a finite realm does not mean that transgression is finite. The punishment for that transgression should be last as long as the The spirit/consciousness behind that transgression continues. How is that not fair?
Forgiveness is offered to all but conditional upon repentance - not continuing the transgression.. How is that not fair?

Hell is until judgment day, lake of fire is forever. You cannot even count all the sins you have done. You also do not realize how bad your sins are. Mankind has put people in prison for life over transgression.
Men that only take a few seconds to do murder pay their whole life in prison for it.

These poor, poor people with all this hate and fear. They do not know anything about what the Christ is. They are always preaching fear and lack of love. They interpret the bible as a weapon and use it to justify their judgements. Such hypocrites. They are the modern Pharisees and Sadducees.
For your own well being ,do not defend yourself against their words of fear. Better to be still and let them rant and rave. They will not see no matter what is shown to them. Sooner or later their hate will wither them.
They know not Love.
Beware the words of the ignorant.

If sin and salvation was merely juridical, as espoused in Western Christian theology, you'd have a valid point.
However, it is only partly juridical. Sin is also sickness, like cancer, and God does not force the cure on anybody.
And God does not actively cause people to suffer, but their sickness will not permit them to be in His unfiltered, undeniable presence in comfort.

How do you undo your sin? If you cannot undo your sin and make it so that it never did happen how is it finite?

Job 35
3For thou saidst, What advantage will it be unto thee? and, What profit shall I have, if I be cleansed from my sin?
Job 40
7Gird up thy loins now like a man: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me.
8Wilt thou also disannul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be righteous?
9Hast thou an arm like God? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him?
10Deck thyself now with majesty and excellency; and array thyself with glory and beauty.
11Cast abroad the rage of thy wrath: and behold every one that is proud, and abase him.
12Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place.
13Hide them in the dust together; and bind their faces in secret.
14Then will I also confess unto thee that thine own right hand can save thee.
Psalm 69
4They that hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of mine head: they that would destroy me, being mine enemies wrongfully, are mighty: then I restored that which I took not away.
John 15
22If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloke for their sin.
23He that hateth me hateth my Father also.
24If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father.
25But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.
26But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:
27And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.

If you sin against and hate the infinitely Holy and Precious God, and despise the blood of Jesus, you deserve infinite, unending torment.
That is justice.
You don't like it because you're guilty.

Rev.20:7-9. These had life because Noah was saved, now they have been
resurrected to have life again, then evil must end.

about hell: in fact, we lead ourselves to hell; we choose our path, we make our choices; God always wants us to choose goodness, mercy, forgiveness, but we, human beings, sometimes choose to reject goodness, to reject mercy, to reject forgiveness(or all the other goods); and God is Goodness itself, so, if we chose to reject, for example, goodness, we, in fact, are, through our choices, choosing to reject God Himself. God doesn't want us to make such choice, but He doesn't force us to make what He wants. Then, if we die in this state, refusing God Himself, we will inherit that place which is the place of the ones who rejected to be with God, rejected Goodness, rejected His Infinite Love, this place is called hell; so, if someone goes to hell, it will happen not because of some arbitrary act of God, but because this person rejected God. God doesn't want no one to go to hell, and He still calls us, tries to lead us to the path of goodness, but sometimes some people rejects Him until the end.
Hail Mary, full of Grace.
