Lyoto Machida vs Jacare Souza?
Should this be the middleweight title eliminator right now?
After watching Machida dispatch Munoz tonight and Jacare crushing Okami in his last match it seems like a pretty good idea.
Who would win this fight?
BQ: If not this one, then who else should be in line? Vitor Belfort perhaps?

Man, this is a great fight. Jacare is a f*cking monster, Machida could knock him out but at this point I would take Jacare over most everyone at MW.
He's a freak athlete, we know his BJJ is probably the best in the game and his striking has become very, very good. Great speed/power, coordination, etc.
As you can tell, I like Jacare. Machida has great stand up and has the power to KO Jacare, b/c Jacare has been stopped a couple of times and hurt on other occasions.
BQ: Yeah, I think that if Vitor beats Hendo that it should be him vs Jacare. They're the clear top two contenders at 185lb IMO, and I think Machida should get one or two more wins under his belt.
Source(s): He's too economical with his stand up though, and Jacare could hang with him on the feet or take him down. - 8 years ago
This is a great question and a very interesting match-up. You must be pretty knowledgeable about MMA already.
I think this is an interesting match-up. Souza has improved his stand-up skills tremendously and is one of the very best submission artists in MMA. That being said, his stand up skills are no match for Machida.
Now that Machida is fighting at Middleweight, he is one of the larger men in the division. This gives him a greater advantage than ever before because Machida rarely gets taken down. This is due to his extensive Sumo and Judo training. His elusiveness is also a huge advantage if he stays aggressive like his last fight with Mark Munoz.
I don't see Souza being able to take Machida down nor do I see him being able to stand very long with Machida. I think Machida could very well knock him out in the first round.
As far as Vitor Belfort, that is a whole other argument. If they fought at Light HeavyWeight, I think it would be a closer fight. I would still give the advantage to Machida in the striking department but not by much. On the ground they are pretty equal as well. I think it would be a stand up war and I think that Belfort's over-aggressive style might open him up to get caught with a power shot. However, I think this is a more interesting fight. Even Dana White wants to see this one! However, Beltfort has to get past Dan Henderson first. Who knows?
Great questions.
