Yes it definitely can happen, i can say this because the same happened in my case. I am very happy & satisfied with the process of getting a passport now.

On 31/01/2015 I fixed an appointment for 11/02/2015 at Delhi PSK. On the date of appointment i visited the PSK and submitted my documents(though it was annoying, as the ques were really long).

On 13/02/2015 i got an SMS that verification process has been initiated for my file.

On 16/02/2015 the Police(Verification) officer visited my home.

And on 20/02/2015, i got SMS that my passport is printed and ready to be dispatched.

Let me clarify that i applied for Fresh Passport in NORMAL category, and the (honest) officer didn't ask me for a single penny as bribe...ya its true...!!!

Passport verification can not be done in one week, but you can get a passport in one week by applying for Tatkal passport. In case of Tatkal Passport application, police verification is done after issuing the passport. Fee for tatkal passport is Rs. 3500 against Rs. 1500 for normal passport. The only challenge in case of tatkal passport application is Annexure-F, which needs to be signed by a Class 1 officer, who can be any secretary, under secretary of GOI, DGP level police officers, PSU officers above the rank of General Manager etc. Basically these class 1 officers verify your identity for issuance of passport. It's difficult to get Annexure F signed unless some one knows you personally.

Usually the verification will take 15 days from the applied date, you can fix your schedule and if the date is confirmed yo can go for verification

On the passport website there is usually a wait time,normally it takes about a month for it to process,but you can pay more for it to be rushed. I heard it's not even worth it though.

But being Honest its normally takes 2-3 weeks in general.

No, it takes more then 1 month after your application received to passport office, and passport come on your address upto 2 month..

No, Normally its not done within a week, but some condition its possible if you do some extra afford and be in touch in the custom officers.
