I need a good budgie owner's advice.?
Hello. Firstly, I'd like to say that i got my Budgie (Mrs. Doyle) yesterday. I have her cage, water feeder, perching sticks, food feeder, paper at bottom of cage for easy clean up- (The obvious must-haves you know?). Here is a picture: http://th00.deviantart.net/fs70/PRE/f/2013/303/9/9...
I want to ask an experienced budgie owner a few things. Firstly, i haven't seen her put her head into the food container and eat anything yet. Is the food container alright? is it too small? And on the subject of food, I give her those little budgie seeds that you get in bags. they are very small and light. The guy at the store said that these are DEFINATELY budgie seeds so, i'll take his word for it. Do budgies (as birds who spit out the shell) need GRIT? I have a box of grit and mixed it with the food. (not 50/50, nore like 85/15) Is this.......good? should i put grit in the seeds? I haven't seen her eat yet (im worried if she knows where her food is and how to get it) Another thing is the water feeder. is it ok? i realise the serving part of it is a bit small. but is that normal and will she know how to get the water? How would you give her food (and how would you/how much grit would you give her, and how much? mix it with food? If so how much?) I really want your best advice here. I'm not panicking, but i am worried for her well-being. that's all. she doesn't attack you if you went close to the cage or anything. Please help me.

When I first got my budgie, he never ate a thing in front of me. I think he was scared to be turned towards the bowl with me standing so near and he was scared I was going to hurt him. Budgies do NOT need grit, it is unnecessary. I'd say clean out the grit and just put the seed in.
My budgie has a bowl for his water but that one should be fine. As long as you think it is big enough for her beak to squeeze in.
I just fill up the food dish with seed and when it looks like there is mostly husks left, i tip it out and put fresh stuff in. If she is eating you should start to see husks on top of the other seed. If you still want to give her the grit then maybe put it in a separate dish so she can decide if she wants it.
Try to also put fresh veg into her cage, it's good for them although too much is a bad thing. My budgie especially likes snow peas.
I'd put some toys in her cage to keep her occupied when you aren't around.
