I'm 18 and I don't know how to drive?

Is this frowned upon in anyway? I've always had people take me where i've needed to go, honestly i'm sorta scared to drive. Should I start with stick or auto?

I didn't get my license til I was 20. Had 2 older siblings in a two car family. Someone was always going where I needed to go and of course even if I had my license older siblings would insist that they drive. Had to wait for them to leave home to get mine. Everyone needs to know how to drive even if they are city dwellers and have lots of public transportation. You should also know how to drive stick. You never know when it will come in handy.

Its nothing to be ashamed of. Not every 18 year old knows how to drive. In fact, if people are driving you around and have no issue with it, why change that. You get free rides. You don't have to spend money on gas or give monthly payments. If you are scared, dont force yourself to learn. I learned because I wanted to. So give yourself sometime. Until you feel you are ready. Learn with auto, its really easy. Practice at big parking lots or in a house neighborhood where there is little to no traffic.

As you enter adulthood one of things that defines your level of maturity is your level of personal responsibility and freedom. Knowing how to drive and going out on your own in a car is all part of that proces.

So YES, it is frowned upon to see a perfectly healthy and intelligent young adult who refuses to grow up.

The reason you are afraid to drive is probably more out of lack of experience than it is fear. You need to get more comfortable behind the wheel, gain confidence as a driver and put time behiond the wheel. The more you drive the more comfortable you get. Comfort eases fear.

If you want to ease your fear of driving get behind the wheel and drive.

I don't think it's "frowned upon", rather it makes you look either too lazy to go through the process of getting your license or too stupid to pass the test. Having a drivers license is kind of a sign of maturity in the western world.
