Is anything supernatural by definition, untrue?

Anything that goes against the natural laws of physics must be untrue, right?

Hopefully most of you will understand what I'm getting at...

The word refers to phenomena which, by definition, can't be accessed using the tools and methods applied to the "natural" world, because the tools and methods are, themselves, part of the natural world. That "natural" world is one which may be known, described factually, and shown to observe all the laws and agencies which are also held to be known and capable of description. The "super" natural is that which lies beyond or outside of the natural.

But the "supernatural," is a moving target, historically. A few hundred years ago, radio transmission would have been regarded as "supernatural," operating outside or beyond what was then regarded as natural (known, or knowable). Advances in science and technology, however, have tended to chew away the boundaries of the supernatural, so what was once "super" is now part of the natural. And what we have found, as we chew away, is that while the body of what is known and natural has grown by magnitudes, so has the body of what is unknown, and undiscovered. Reasonably, we might say that our idea of the supernatural is largely a point of view.

If what I suggest is true (or true enough) then we can't say that the agencies and forces applying to what we currently call "supernatural" are either true, or untrue, as we take those words to mean. There certainly are observed phenomena which are as yet unexplained. Physicists, for example, know that "entanglement" exists. That is, the state of widely separated particles will instantly change so that when one is affected, the other one will also react - at the exact same time, in defiance of the speed of light law. Einstein called this "spooky action at a distance." The fact that entanglement has been observed, and can be created in the lab, means we are observing something "natural." But, how does it work? The various explanations take shape as formulas which cover a lot of black boards, but these are products of the imagination, which postulate what must be physically or naturally true or required for the phenomena to take place. Here, we might say, science is operating at the natural-supernatural boundary.

Thus the answer to the question is that whether something now taken as supernatural is true, or untrue, can only be known when we are advanced enough to snatch it from the supernatural, and study it within our own means and abilities in the natural world.

Metaphysically, we could argue, reasonably, that the constantly moving boundary is what keeps theologians and scientists awake at night, trying to comprehend not just the data, but also how to even think about the data. And we might say that this entire process and our development is, itself, "supernatural." Why, after all, should it be this way?

There is no known absolute "cap/container" on the nature of physics or any other natural laws. Science is unable to describe the boundaries of what is to be called "natural", and can not rightly logically deny it could reach to and or relate to matters that are considered, "supernatural". Things people think to be super natural can possibly be untrue(What we know of scientifically and by natural means to be thoughts is not supernatural) If there is anything that is of a genuine and supernatural nature, than it is true. The even first steps of the scientific method, require free and positive consideration. Science becomes useless to continue in discovery, without it, both to the individual, and as well toward the intellectual community as a whole.

Supernatural just means we can't explain it.

Not that it's impossible or untrue.

The Natural Laws of Physics are only based on what we know NOW.

There was a time (for example) when Man ever being able to fly was ''impossible''.

    EDIT.

If we could go back in time, and went back in an airplane and someone saw it

that would be .. to them .. supernatural.

So maybe that's what UFO'S are.

Not spaceships from another planet .. but time machines from our own future.

    No!

It just means that physics does not have the answer!

But that does not mean that it is supernatural either.

For example the price of a share of stock is not supernatural just because it falls outside the realm of physics.

Then there is the matter of quantum physics, while a very specialized area of physics the term was coined to explain things that were at one point "supernatural" because behaviors observed could not be explained in terms of the current rules of physics.

Supernatural- just means it violates known rules and at present has no known explanation.

That is not how we view the word supernatural.

While you do have that possible definition listed in the dictionary, it is only one of several.

    1.

of, pertaining to, or being above or beyond what is natural; unexplainable by natural law or phenomena; abnormal.

    2.

of, pertaining to, characteristic of, or attributed to God or a deity.

    3.

of a superlative degree; preternatural: a missile of supernatural speed.

    4.

of, pertaining to, or attributed to ghosts, goblins, or other unearthly beings; eerie; occult.

    noun

    5.

a being, place, object, occurrence, etc., considered as supernatural or of supernatural origin; that which is supernatural, or outside the natural order.

    6.

behavior supposedly caused by the intervention of supernatural beings.

    7.

direct influence or action of a deity on earthly affairs.

    8.

    the supernatural.

    a.

supernatural beings, behavior, and occurrences collectively.

    b.

supernatural forces and the supernatural plane of existence: a deep fear of the supernatural.

    -----------------

Even science admits to the supernatural for they claim that only 5% of all matter in our observable universe is what we know as matter. The rest is stated as unknown. In this case then unknown is supernatural in the true sense. It is outside the natural order we are familiar with and can explain.

This 'unknown' stuff is quite real and evidence for its existence is plentiful and true. Thus your statement is false.

An other problem is the theory of the multiverse. It is quite impossible to observe and can only be inferred or theorized, whichever is true these days. In the same line of thought, the string theory which many a scientist accepts is just as far beyond our ability to demonstrate real. Yet, it seems that it must be true though it is against what is possible to prove is part of our natural laws we presently understand.

As such we cannot see just what is there to see for we have such a limited vision in the main.

We speak of etheric vision rather than the psychic element that we all share.

When we can see other realms of nature clearly then it will ne natural and not super or para natural.

Wee children are now being born with this higher etheric vision as a normal function so watch them grow and learn from them. Amen.

it depends how you define natural and law...

its conceivable for example for there to be another universe with different physics than ours where in crossing the border would lead to the ability of doing things outside the laws of our universe.

also i would say this perspective is due to a simplification of the real world. to people who live in a sphere the lines are straight, while to those who live outside the sphere the lines are curved. its all a matter of perspective.

"Supernatural" tends to be something people use to explain things not explained yet. Nothing can be outside of nature. Nature is everything that is.

You have not documented your claim about the definition of "supernatural".

"super" as a prefix means this:

    super-

a prefix occurring originally in loanwords from Latin, with the basic meaning “above, beyond.” Words formed with super-, have the following general senses: “to place or be placed above or over” ( superimpose; supersede ), “a thing placed over or added to another” ( superscript; superstructure; supertax ), “situated over” ( superficial; superlunary ) and, more figuratively, “an individual, thing, or property that exceeds customary norms or levels” ( superalloy; superconductivity; superman; superstar ), “an individual or thing larger, more powerful, or with wider application than others of its kind” ( supercomputer; superhighway; superpower; supertanker ), “exceeding the norms or limits of a given class” ( superhuman; superplastic ), “having the specified property to a great or excessive degree” ( supercritical; superfine; supersensitive ), “to subject to (a physical process) to an extreme degree or in an unusual way” ( supercharge; supercool; supersaturate ), “a category that embraces a number of lesser items of the specified kind” ( superfamily; supergalaxy ), “a chemical compound with a higher proportion than usual of a given constituent” ( superphosphate ).

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Origin:

< Latin super (preposition and v. prefix) above, beyond, in addition, to an especially high degree; akin to Greek hypér (see hyper-), Sanskrit upari; see over "

By that definition, some radio and light waves are supernatural. We cannot sense them with our senses and had to make additional equipment in order to know they exist. They have always been a part of our natural world, yet were unknown to us and now we use them. They don't go "against the natural laws of physics", but had someone known how to use them before people in general were aware of them, they would have seemed "supernatural" to them.
