    Not long.

My father died 4 years ago from the same thing. He kept complaining of severe back pain for several months, but his regular doctor kept telling him it was just arthritis and gave him pain medications which did nothing.

At the beginning of July, he finally went to a pain management specialist who took MRI's and X-rays, and found evidence of cancerous tumors in his lungs that had spread to his spine and broken one of his vertebrae (that's what was causing the back pain). Further tests confirmed the cancer diagnosis. He went to a local rehab hospital where he could receive daily radiation therapy, but after 3 weeks, it was clear that the radiation wasn't working, and his cancer was too advanced for chemotherapy to be of any use. We discontinued the remaining radiation treatments and brought him home on hospice care at the end of August, and he died at home 6 days later, on September 5, 2009.

So from the beginning of July, when he was first diagnosed, to the beginning of September, when he died = 2 months. :-( He was 76 years old.

I miss him :-( So spend as much time as you can with your grandad, because you might not have him for much longer.

First of all this this is a medical issue not a Genealogy one.

Second it depends on the type of lung cancer, some are very fast moving and others move more slowly,

The doctors have most likely told him how long they thing he has, but no one can give a accurate amount of time.

If he has advances lung cancer and is in significant pain, most doctors would prescribe medication for pain and try to make him as comfortable as possible.

Stupid docs? You're putting all the blame for his pain on doctors? Sorry. If doctors weren't around he'd be in a heck of a lot more pain or even dead. They did the best they could. What did you do? Pray for him? Good for you. That definiely helped, didn't it?

Sorry for being so angry but please stop balming doctors - the people who actually try and help unlike most people - for your Grandpa's pain.

And I honestly don't know. He'll die when he\s given up on life :(
