Astrologers divide the 360 of the ecliptic - the apparent path of the Sun against the sky - into 12 equal portions, giving 30 degrees per sign. They start one sign at the point of the vernal equinox and go round. Because the vernal equinox moves, and the actual asterisms (patterns of stars) aren't all the same size, the upshot is astrological signs bear no relation to what we see in the sky.
Astronomers use the constellation boundaries drawn up by the IAU in 1922, which were more or less a tidying up of what was previously in use. The zodiacal constellations are no different to the rest.

Mate, this is just weird. I realise that many people don't know a lot about space travel, which is fine, but I don't know where all that stuff came from. The volume of space between Earth and moon is immense. I use that word because it gives the best idea of size, but even then, most people don't use it in the sense I mean. The chances of seeing any other object are, well, astronomically small. The spacecraft was travelling 11 kilometres per second. Any other object would have been moving in a different direction also at a high speed. If the spacecraft had "hit" a marshmallow at that speed it would have been disastrous. It's not like Star Wars where huge ships move in stately fashion and can wave to each other as they pass, even more so the bigger they are. "I believe someone on the crew (a top leader) killed the person . . ." There were three men in the crew, living and working in a hazardous mission in an area the size of an average bedroom. They had been training together for months and knew each other's personalities backwards, as they needed to because their lives relied on it.They were in constant contact with mission control. And don't you think the absence of a crew member would have been noticed and questioned, or do you reckon they didn't bother counting how many blokes they shoved into the capsule? Again, while I don't think everyone should have a knowledge of space travel, don't we know the difference between Apollo and The Jetsons? If I didn't know better, I'd say you're all in this together, planning ridiculous answers in order to wind up some geek like me and get a rise out of me. Except even that isn't true, because I dont believe in conspiracies. There's a good reason you "can't find anything on this". Looking forward to your kind wishes.

There is no math behind the zodiac signs of the constellations.
Over the course of the year, the sun appears to move along a path in our sky called the "ecliptic", and the zodiac signs are 12 of the 13 constellations along that ecliptic.
The only "math" is that astroLOGY assigns each sign 30 days that the sun is in the sign, which is completely inaccurate in astroNOMY.
But if you want astrological mumbo-jumbo, you might post this in Entertainment > Horoscopes.

There really is no math behind the zodiac signs. The constellations are arbitrary groupings of stars as seen from Earth, and are not real physical entities. They are just stars which lie in roughly the same direction as seen from Earth. In 1930, the International Astronomical Union, recognized 88 official constellations and defined their boundaries mathematically. Because of precession of the equinoxes, these 1930 boundaries are now slightly askew from the lines of celestial latitude and longitude. There are actually 13 constellations which lie along the ecliptic, the scientific name for the zodiac, Ophiuchus being the 13th. Although the Sun stays precisely on this path, the Moon and planets stray far enough from it to occasionally pass through other constellations, including Cetus and even Orion.

There are 360 degrees in a complete circle. There are 12 constellations in the European Zodiac. So each Zodiac constellation is approximately 360/12 = 30 degrees apart. Other than that, there is no scientific nor mathematical basis for Zodiac and other forms of astrology. Astronomy is a science, but not astrology.

Tropical astrology divides the sky into 12 equal parts. This has been the way they've done it since Ptolemy.

Sidereal astrology uses the constellations defined by the Internation Astronomical Union, though, i'm not sure if they use Ophiucus. The Sun signs are the constellations that the Sun passes through. And there are 13 constellations that that Sun passes through.

The only thing "behind" the zodiac signs is myth and superstition. There isn't any math associated with it. Unless you are talking about Astrology, in which case you are in the wrong department. Try the section Entertainment & Music / Horoscopes.

fraud and pedophilia.
if you see an astrologer in the street do not approach them. call the cops.
if an astrologer invites you in to their car run away as fast as you can.
every time an astrologer takes somebody's money a puppy dies.
