Can someone explain this quote to me? (Revised)?

I understand it mostly but it seems so deep I feel like I'm missing something.

"I believe in ordinary acts of bravery, in the courage that drives one person to stand up for another."

The standard definition of "Hero" and "Brave" involves huge acts - one man defending a tower against an army (the Spartan 300), or stuff like that. This person is more personal - you don't have to be someone that they write songs about, a "true" hero is that one person that stands up to support another person with they need supporting. When that one kid in class is being bullied, the "brave" person is that ONE kid that stands up to defend the victim.
