How to use a headset with two plugs in a computer with one jack?

I have a Windows 8 Acer Aspire v5, and i recently bought a kind of crappy headset for 7 bucks on amazon. The headset has two jacks (speakers and mic) and my computer has only one jack for headsets with only one plug. I plugged in the speaker plug and it worked, but when I plug in the mic plug nothing happens, and it doesn't seem to work. How can I get the mic to work? And how would I use them both at once? Would I need an adapter? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you need a headphone splitter adapter. Google it for best price or search for it on Amazon.

yeah most newer laptops have one single microphonic stereo line (mic + speakers together). assuming you have standard 3.5mm stereo jacks, you just need a dual to single converter
