He's still very young, Amazons can live to be 100 years old! Talk to him repetitively with very short one or two word phrases. For example whenever you see him, say Hi and his name a few times. When he starts talking, it may be difficult to tell what he's saying at first but eventually he will get better at saying things. Once he's learned how to talk, an Amazon can pick up things they hear that you don't necessarily teach him. Don't let him hear cuss words! Once a parrot learns to cuss, it's almost impossible to break him of it because the bird quickly learns that cussing gets attention.
My blue front Amazon says quite a few things, most of them are short phrases such as Whatcha doing? Look! Hi Charlie, Good Boy, Mom (he learned this one from hearing my son say it to me), and he mimics many sounds such as dog barking, cats meowing, things he hears on TV, and laughter. Go through the house, trip or stub your toe and say OW! and he will respond with LAUGHTER! Nobody taught him to laugh when someone says Ow. I don't know where he figured out that use of laughter!
