This pertains to arthritis pain.?
I have always thought that symptoms of arthritis were swelling in the joints, and stiffness and aching in the joints. However recently, I have had excruciating, sharp pain, much like a knife sticking into the joint when I tried to straighten it.. Is this typical of arthritis? Is there any pain medication or treatment that helps? Nothing I have tried so far has had any effect. Christine

There are a couple kinds of arthritis. It usually is swollen joints, stiffness, aching joints but sometimes sharp pain. There are different meds for different types of arthritis. If it is osteoarthritis losing weight is most effective. Losing 1 lb is like losing 4 lbs to your knees. there is also synovisc shots to add lubrication.
