Gays can't donate blood, but...?

If they have clean blood and no STDs, how can the Red Cross or any other organization know?

I guess if they have taken an STD test at a hospital and checked that they have had sex with a man... but would the Red Cross check medical records like that?

No they wouldn't cross reference, they just test the blood. So if you lied they'd have no way of knowing.....assuming the guy who is asking hasn't had sex with you.

because of the high statistical probability of blood bourne pathogens men who have sex with men are declined for blood donation.

I think this is a good call and should stay that way until men who have sex with men no longer account for 75% of the HIV infections detected. ( based on CDC reports)

yes they always do a blood test to check for anything that would become a problem.
