How to play cantabile on piano?

I know it means song like, but how exactly does one do this?

Also, I can't seem to make out the difference of when someone is playing a piece in cantabile or, say, Affettuoso or Sostenuto.

Well, when you sing a song, do you just sing the notes one after the other? No. There's a romping good melody, and you get into it and sing out the melody, emphasising and phrasing the notes in a way that fits the tune.

So that's how you do "cantabile". It means you should really feel the TUNE, instead of playing the notes just one after the other. Of course, you should always do that, but when it says cantabile that's when you should do it particularly emphasised.

Affettuoso means loving and tender, so you might play it more delicately. Sostenuto means sustained, so you might slightly stretch out and slow the melody down a bit, and give it a bit of weight.
