    First of all, it appears that the problem is either 5-(a/a) + 3/4=7/a, or it could be (5-a)/a +3/4 =7/a

    The brackets make a huge difference. Based on the spacing, I suspect that the problem is (5-a)/a +3/4 =7/a.

    First step: move a's to one side of the equation, constants to the other.

    Subtract (5-a)/a from both sides.

    =>7/a - (5-a)/a =3/4

    Simplify to (7-5+a)/a=3/4.

    => (2+a)/a=3/4 Where (2+a)/a =2/a +1

    Subtracting one from both sides gives: 2/a=-1/4.

    Multiplying both sides by a gives us 2=-a/4.

    Multiplying both sides by -4 gives us: a=-8

    Try to write the question correctly first.

    Is the question like this as follows ?

    (5 - a)/(a + 3/4) = 7/a

    OR, (5 - a)/{(a + 3)/4}

    OR, {(5 - a)/(a + 3)}/4 = 7/a

    Ok well first simplify what you can

    1) a/a will become 1 as they cancel out so you get 5-1+0.75=7/a

    2) add/subtract what you can you get 4.75=7/a

    3) Multiply a to both sides so you will get 4.75a=7

    4) divide both sides by 4.75 to get a alone a=7/4.75

    so your answer is a=28/19

    Assuming it is ( 5-a) / a + 3/4 = 7 / a

    MULTIPLY BOTH SIDES BY 4a

    4 ( 5-a) + 3a = 28

    20 - 4a +3a = 28

    a = -8 ANSWER
