I'm planning on starting to sew; meaning, I'm a beginner. What's a good starter machine?

I don't plan on staying an amateur forever. I have no idea what to look for in choosing a machine. I would like something not too pricey, but of a good quality that is fit for a beginner but can accommodate me when I improve on my skills. What do you recommend? Why?

Consider finding a sewing class where they have you use their machines. That will help you learn how to use a machine and what you like and dislike about machines, and avoid some of the pitfalls of buying a machine in a box from a big box store with no service.

Otherwise, I'd suggest you might want to read my earlier answers here:http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AtVc8... and here: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=201110...

Get a Brother from Walmart. Any machine will do to start sewing after a year then you will have the knowledge to choose a machine that will last you a lifetime.
