Subcutaneous injections!?
when we give like am IM injection i know we draw up the med with a specific needle, then change it but do we do this also with say a subcutaneous injection of insulin or heparin?? ( obviously not prefilled) have a skills test coming up!

The needle change serves two purposes: first a large bore one draws up the fluids faster, second its sharp to enter the rubber stopper, and that would dull a smaller gauge needle and make the injection painful. If neither of these situations exist, in theory you could use the injection needle. Insulin needles on dedicated syringes are often integral-they do not change;but they are too tiny to piece a rubber stopper. you have to look at your set up. Knowing why you do something (just not how to do it) will allow you to puzzle out situations.
