Life is pointless....? Convince me otherwise....?
I'm 13 and I feel like life is just pointless. There's nothing to do in life. You just eat, sleep, read, write, talk with people, go to school/work, and other small things in between. Eventually you get married then die.
So.... please try to convince me otherwise! What should I do?
Thanks.

Uh, well... you caught on pretty fast. Sorry about that. HOWEVER, there sure are a lot more interesting things in life than just that stuff you mentioned. How about you start a revolution, make history, maybe even die for a cause? Or go to Africa and build houses, or go to the rain forest and study lemurs, or go climb mountains and stuff? Or you could do something like make an awesome TV show or start a band maybe. You're in a boring place right now, but the world is full of incredible things. It may all be pointless, but it doesn't have to be THAT pointless.

i feel like you have a point. the way you put it, even if life had a bunch of really different actions, they're still all just actions or things that you do...just slightly bigger and grander-looking. like, if you were doing something interesting like riding dinosaurs...from a certain point of view, it's just "so what, so you're riding around on dinosaurs every day...you'll do it hundreds of times, but that's not such an accomplishment."
i feel like meaning is subtle, and it lives in everyday, ordinary things...but it's not sitting on the surface to be had easily. people have stories and things that they organize their lives around, and meaning comes about from the evolution of that story and the emotions connected to it. like, to a certain extent, i could say that the the story in your life that's driving your current forward movement is that you're skeptical of meaning and wanting to find an alternative to meaninglessness. and considered from a certain angle, that could be a kind of quiet or pursuit that is worthwhile, because of there being this hope for a better experience.
if you describe anything in a dry, disinterested, detached, sterile way, you can make just about anything seem lifeless and pointless. the thing is, sometimes words don't do full justice to the things they're describing. a table isn't just a table--its something that has lines, colors, stains, blots, memories, associations, etc. things have resonances or energetic connections, and i feel like a lot of meaning comes from just seeing what's there and noticing your natural, unfeigned, honest reactions to things. there are some moments when, if you're caught off-guard, you look around and everything just feels very vivid, beautiful, and intrinsically valuable without needing any words or explanations.
i feel like meaning doesn't necessarily have to be intellectually justified to be real. and the search for meaning through words alone ultimately leads to a dead end. there comes a point where you have the question "what is meaningful" and then for any possible answer you throw out, you're able to doubt it by saying, "well, but how do you prove that? why should i take your answer as truth?" and so, there's no way to discern or obtain truth by words or explanations alone. philosophy can only weave together strings of words into sentences, but it can't justify anything without appealing to something outside of itself. the premises that stand in need or justification are provided by experience, and it is only through experiences that anything has meaning. that's how it can be that people who come up with complicated, convoluted explanations of what meaning is may still be distant from it...while people who have never thought about the question at all in those terms may still have much meaning.
Source(s): Edit: I refuse to look down on anyone who is putting effort and energy into asking serious, careful, thoughtful questions that are heartfelt and demand to be taken seriously. It doesn't matter how old you are--what you think and feel matters to you, and it matters to the you that you'll be in the future. What you do and think and feel now is instrumental to what you'll become, and whatever you are now, you might only be something even better in the future...and maybe these questions, doubts, concerns, intuitions, etc. are the means by which you are destined to blossom and evolve. - 8 years ago
Convince you otherwise with three words: YOU ARE THIRTEEN!
You are confused, your brain is still growing, you havent even begun to live yet. Yes your age is hard, but before you know it, you will be older wishing you were younger again. You are going to have so many amazing, curious, confusing, agravating, fascinating, frustrating, hilarious, life changing experiences that will make you happy you are alive. Explore your world and look beyond yourself to find the things that make you happy. Look to the future but live today. Be curious but not judgmental, be open to experience, respect yourself, and dont ever let someone else bring you down. Be in control and learn and learn and learn. The more knowledge you gain, the more interesting life will be. Its your life, and its still just in its beginning stages. Enjoy being young. Too often the young want to grow up too fast, and the old want to be young. Being human is full of surprises. Find humor in things and laugh. Just live! :)

You're exactly right. Life is inherently meaningless. We eat sleep find shelter and follow social expectations. But what then makes everyone unique? Why do we all have a sense of individuality if we do the same basic things? Humans go through a lifelong journey of finding meaning when there really isn't any. But maybe that's what makes it so powerful. There isn't any reason or meaning but yet we create it. That's the power of being human. You can create whatever meaning you want. The best part is that it is unique to you. Find your passion and dedicate yourself to it for as long as you so choose to. That, my friend, is where you will find "meaning" .

Of course it's pointless man, you haven't gave your life a point yet, but you can.
There is something that you enjoy doing in life, focus your attention on that and be happy.
I'm sure you have smiled, laughed and enjoyed things before, ask yourself what were them things that made you feel that way? why did they make you feel that way. Bring them happy feelings back now and enjoy them again. There is your point. Start believing.

MWHAHAHA pointless :D and that comes from 13 years old kid :D
The thing is - when you find love.. when you find awesome friends.. when you find hobby ..and you start doing crazy **** .. not so pointless anymore..
Try to invent something new .. do somthing to impress everyone .. don`t be one of the grey mass.. those people are pointless yes .. but do something that isn`t pointless..
I agree - routine that we are in right now (work, merriage, death and **** like that) is pointless.. but that`s the point in life - not to be pointless :D
And anyway .. i can sum it up in one word - titties :D

Hi Sk,
That must be really rough, remember life always
gets better and you have a whole lifetime to discover it.
Wait for thirty six hours for positive change.
Best Wishes.

Résumé
Razors pain you;
Rivers are damp;
Acids stain you;
And drugs cause cramp.
Guns aren't lawful;
Nooses give;
Gas smells awful;
You might as well live.

Life has its ups and downs, I guess there's a purpose to be living... You are still young so there's nothing much going on so just enjoy and have fun with your childhood.
