Car smells like burning rubber...?

So I have a 99 Nissan Altima (I know she's old) and it just recently got frigid cold where I live and even though I let my car warm up for at least 10min before taking off I noticed that it seems to have a weird smell to it now. Like burning rubber or dirty exhaust. It hasn't been acting weird or anything and the engine temp is cool. I checked the oil about 3 weeks ago and added more since I gotta little leak somewhere.

My Dad is a mechanic though and very busy so my real question is that is this something that I need to bug him about or is it something very minor that I can probably handle myself.

    You maybe smelling burning oil.

The oil leak maybe leaking onto the hot exhaust. If you open the hood after drive and white smoke appear then that confirms it. You maybe even hear a sizzle of the oil droplet dropping onto the exhaust.

It could be a 7Txd alternator. I had the same problem with my workhorse, you just have to be careful with your shifting and TC compressor valves should reactivate within a few days.
