What is the responsibility of Christians to address the issue of inequality in America?

I am doing a research paper for my sociology class, and I need to interview someone who works full time in the ministry or someone who has been on mission trips. Here is the overall question:

1. In a time of increasing inequality in this country as evidenced by the growing income gap among other measures, what is the responsibility of Christians to address these issues?

2. How is this responsibility expressed in action?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Christians will no doubt have diverse views on this question so the most you can hope for is individual Christian perspective.

As I understand it the responsibility of a Christian is to be a Christian. In the context of your question this means to proclaim the fact that we are all God's Children and we all are equal in the sight of the Lord. In a day when secular authorities would divide us with all kinds of tests and allocating us to different education systems which lead to different kinds of lives it is more important than ever to recognize the basic equality of each human being.

What's your question? I'm not a priest or minister, and it's completely possible you will never find a clergy wasting his time on Y!A. Try a local church, synagogue, mosque.
