security clearance question?

first off, i have passed a basic security clearance before joining the military in 1995, then separated after my 4 years. 3 years later I took a job as a government contractor which required a clearance background check again. I know that the security clearance didn't for my contractor job didn't require a sit down interview (2003). fast forward....Now i've just recently submitted my clearance paperwork again, but this time I have an interview scheduled pertaining to this security clearance re-issue.

my questions is "Why do I need an interview if my clearance application was completed successfully with no errors when I digitally submitted the paperwork?"

even my security office cleared me off for submitting the application. I work as a DOD contractor on a military base.

Update:

what sort of question are asked that aren't on the application?

Update 2:

lol. dude you're calling me out that i was never in the military. get a life man. i know what i've done in life. it's funny how you play keyboard investigator. lol.

Update 3:

dude, I was in the military. get over it. you've formed your own opinion based on what you've read in the past. too bad your ultimate conclusion is absolutely wrong. lol.

Update 4:

you can quit trolling my questions, providing your $.02 and just answer the question.

Update 5:

Not exactly sure, but NACLC rings a bell. ANACI doesn't.

I did have some items that are questionable, but after filling in the comments with the exact details I would state in an interview, I would have thought that whoever was processing the paperwork could put two and two together and the section not be considered a flag.

You didn't mention what kind of investigation you're getting. If it's a NACLC or ANACI, it's an issue-triggered interview. If it's an MBI, BI, or SSBI, an interview is a standard part of the investigation. Given the apparent ten year time frame, I'm guessing this is a NACLC and you have issues, either admitted or developed.

It has nothing to do with whether or not there were errors when you submitted your paperwork. If there were problems with your questionnaire such that they couldn't schedule the investigation, that would be resolved by the submitting office, not the investigative service.

    Edit:

It's not the OPM front end's job to "put two and two together" and disregard an issue. You admitted something that met the SPIN criteria, or they developed it. You get an ESI to resolve resolve those issues. That's the policy. They're not going to make a special exception for you just because you typed a lot of words into e-QIP.

I also do government contract work and had to get security clearance. I had to have an interview for mine even though other contractors I work with who have the same clearance told me they did not require interviews. Maybe it is a recent policy change. All the interview did was go over the same questionnaire I filled out originally online and verify my answers. I was also asked for contact information for people who could verify my answers so make sure you have people's contact information with you.

The requirements change with time. Even for the exact same clearance, you might now require an interview and/or a lie detector even if you had that same clearance previously.

The questions are basically the same stuff as on the SF-86, plus they ask you to explain anything that doesn't match with other sources like credit reports. Like if you forgot to include something, they'll ask about it.

You remember the Navy Yard shooter?

Everyone got their panties in a wad about "ZOMG!!!!eleventy!!!!......how could HE get a security clearence?" thing?

It was all over the MSM for weeks.

    That's one big reason.
