I know some are not from the exact era but I place them in the era they were most popular in. These aren't the most popular on their eras, they are some of my personal favorites.

I guess that era categorisation was a bit moot then, eh? All in all, I think the UK has produced the best bands, but it's always been a matter of opinion.
Ever notice how one era is always trying to outdo the one before it, and it looks like a movement that's been ping-ponging across the pond for years, like how African-Americans gave us the blues, which was then hammered into something harder and louder in the UK, which was then developed further by bands in the US... It's probably the greatest example of cultural one-upmanship I can think of.
