stretch your legs good, especially so you dont get shin splints. hydrate yourself before you go to bed and when you wake up and run over a mile, twice a day. practice breathing so you dont feel like youre short of breath while you run. but just stay focused on something else rather than how tired you are when you run. try listening to music and sing to it in your head, time and distance goes by fastest for me like that :)

Gradually build up your mileage. It is better to run every other day than every day. It gives you time to recover and strengthen. You could do some other kind of exercise on non-running days. Anyway, extend your mileage by maybe a quarter of a mile at a time. If you have been pushing yourself to the limit for your mile, ease back the pace a little bit to extend your distance. Although not every run has to be a distance increase, so you could make some runs a mile to push your one mile pace.

You have to break yourself. That's what I call it. One day, you just have to go out there and decide you aren't going to stop, and just jog three miles straight, no matter how slow, but don't walk. It will hurt. But after that, it gets fun. After doing that a few times, you just keep workimg on that and slowly upping your distance. This was how I trained and went from running 2 miles in 19 minutes in 8th grade to a varsity cross country runner who made it to state as a freshman with a time of 18 minutes. For three miles!
