New York City subway?

I live in a very small town where we do not have public transportation of any kind and I'll be traveling to New York City soon for the first time. I've never visited a major city before and I'm trying to do the normal research before traveling (shopping, sights, etc.). I've tried researching the subway system but it sounds extremely confusing! Is it really that hard? I'm only going for a couple of nights. Any tips, advice, and so on would be appreciated!

Try to ask a friendly face, if you get confused. People are very helpful.

Your best bet is to ASK QUESTIONS whenever your not sure about something.. Don't be scared to ask someone for help whenever your there and need assistance.. I guarantee someone will give you directions, preferably a worker or attendant at any subway station

    PS: GOOD LUCK!!

It's not that hard. Figure out where you're staying and where you want to go and identify the closest stations to those point and then figure out if they are on the same line or easily connecting lines.
