  • New York City subway?

I live in a very small town where we do not have public transportation of any kind and I'll be traveling to New York City soon for the first time. I've never visited a major city before and I'm trying to do the normal research before traveling (shopping, sights, etc.). I've tried researching the subway system but it sounds extremely confusing! Is it really that hard? I'm only going for a couple of nights. Any tips, advice, and so on would be appreciated!

  • Why can't I receive my friend's text messages?

My friend and I text each other a lot. I have Verizon service and she has Sprint. As of Sunday afternoon though, I cannot receive any text messages from her and I know she has been sending them. I can get them from anyone else though. She can receive texts from me without any trouble though. I have updated my roaming capabilities, restarted my phone, made sure she has the right number, and made sure I didn't accidentally block her. I don't know what else to do. Sprint has told her that this is my problem. Does anyone know how to fix this?

  • Depreciation Question HELP PLEASE?

Aircraft parts are purchased for use in a rental business that rents them to movie studios. These parts often come back damaged and therefore, have a useful life of less than 4 years. Should these be classed as a property with a 3 year recovery period or maybe a 5 year property? I don't think the useful life is supposed to bear any weight on this.

I cannot find anything in the Internal Revenue Code to clarify this for me. Please help and explain your answer so I can research this myself!

  • Accounting/Tax Homework...Please Help!?

In January 2012, Ezra purchased 2,000 shares of Gold Utility Mutual Fund for $20,000. In June, Ezra received an additional 100 shares as a dividend, in lieu of receiving $1,000 in the company declared a two-for-one stock split. Ezra received an additional 2,100 shares, but there was no option to receive cash. At the time of the stock dividend in December and at the end of the year, the fund shares were trading for $11 per share. Also, at the end of the year, the fund offered to buy outstanding shares for $9. Ezra did not sell any shares during the year.

    (a) What is Ezra's gross income from the 100 shares received in June?

    (b) Should Ezra be required to recognize gross income in 2012 even though the fair market value of his investment at the end of the year was less than the fair market value at the beginning of the year?

Please explain so I can understand!

  • Accounting/Tax Question?

    Please help me:

"Don and Mary Dewey are successful professionals with a combined AGI of $400,000. Their household includes 2 kids: Deb (age 16) and Van (age 23). Van isn't a student but works a part time job, making $16,000. Don heard that it might be beneficial if Van, rather than Don and Mary, claims Deb as a qualified child for income tax purposes. At a Chamber of Commerce meeting, Don asks you to advise him on this matter."

Please explain the differences between Don and Mary claiming Deb, vs. Van claiming her. Thanks!

  • Accounting Problem! Please explain it!?

Raintree Cosmetic Company sells its products to customers on a credit basis. An adjusting entry for bad debt expense is recorded only at December 31, the company’s fiscal year-end. The 2010 balance sheet disclosed the following:

    Current assets:

Receivables, net of allowance for uncollectible accounts of $24,000 $600,000

During 2011, credit sales were $1,540,000, cash collections from customers $1,623,160, and $33,500 in accounts receivable were written off. In addition, $4,500 was collected from a customer whose account was written off in 2010. An aging of accounts receivable at December 31, 2011, reveals the following:

    Percentage of Year-End Percent

Age Group Receivables in Group Uncollectible

    0–60 days 63 % 4 %

    61–90 days 16 15

    91–120 days 10 25

    Over 120 days 11 40

    REQUIRED:

    1) Prepare the year-end adjusting entry for bad debts according to each of the following situations:

a)Bad debt expense is estimated to be 3% of credit sales for the year.

    b) Bad debt expense is estimated by computing net realizable value of the receivables. The allowance for uncollectible accounts is estimated to be 10% of the year-end balance in accounts receivable.

    c) Bad debt expense is estimated by computing net realizable value of the receivables. The allowance for uncollectible accounts is determined by an aging of accounts receivable.

2)For situations (a)–(c) in requirement 1 above, what would be the net amount of accounts receivable reported in the 2011 balance sheet?

Please explain how to get the answers so I can learn how to do this!

  • How to Decide Between 3 College Majors?

I am finishing my Associate's degree in business management and I'm looking to get my Bachelor's degree. I originally thought my major was going to be business administration with a minor in accounting but now I am considering majoring in accounting. I have also been turned onto human resource management by one of my instructors and I find that I am really interested in that as well. I just do not know if it best to stick with a generalized degree (business) or go with something more specialized (accounting, human resource management). I have high levels of interest in all 3. Help me!
