If you were Abraham, how would you have reacted to the?

If you were Abraham, how would you have reacted to the practical joke that God played on him? I mean the one where he said Abraham must kill his son then later said "Hahahaha just kidding Abraham, it was all just a joke"

Do you think it was a funny joke? Should God be takes seriously if he can play such jokes on his people just for amusement? Imagine how Abraham's son was feeling when his father said 'Hey son,. I got a funniest story ever, hahahaha, you know God, He is forever funny. Do you know he just said I should kill you. You are so lucky it was just a joke...

Also is it possible that all these people who claim to hear God speak are just hearing voices in their heads? As in schizo's? Going to kill your son because "God" said so sounds like a schizophrenic behavior to me

That's one of the truly dumb biblical stories. It has to rank in the top ten. First of all if Abraham had half a brain in is head he should had refused saying my god says thou shall not kill. So the voice I hear must be that of the serpent in the garden of Eden. Imagine god never shows himself yet if you hear a talking snake it's no big deal. Could you imagine the kid was helping to get the wood to burn him by his father for a alter sacrifice to god because god likes the smell of burning human flesh. (He must hang around at crematories now.) Who buys that kind of crap? That god is sick. How could the son ever trust his father again? The kid had to live in fear after that but, the Christians think because god is abusive it's acceptable.

The example begins in verse 30 where Jephthah promises a burnt offering to the lord, and it turns out to be his daughter. The custom among the Hebrews was that "burnt offering" meant to send a child to the temple to serve there for life. That's why it says the women were able to visit her every year. It was only in Egypt that children were actually sacrificed by fire, and that was to Dagon. The point of the story was that Abraham had been in Egypt too long and had forgotten his upbringing.

This is not an example of "schizophrenic behavior", it's an example of lousy study habits and letting other people tell you what the bible says. You are supposed to study it yourself so you are not deceived by such lies. The link above has a search box where you can type words to see what the bible says about the subject.

I obviously would not have done it. No God worth his salt would ask me to kill anyone and God did not ask Abe to. If a God told me to kill someone I would tell him to rot in hell. The Jews practiced human sacrifice as part of the Levitical law. the Israelites served a tribal god for many years who was very cruel, racist and caused the death of countless innocent animals and humans. He was one of the cruelest of the historic gods. The origin of racism actually began with one family as strange as that sounds. It was Abes family and that war continues today.

Considering that I am a real person, and not a composite mythological character, my reaction would have been to question my own sanity.

In academic circles, the historicity of Abraham has been pretty much decided to be fictional.

I think Abraham was an egoistic *******! Ready to kill his own son to please god and buy himself (with his own childs life) into the kingdom of heaven. Disgusting!

Right off I would know God was testing me as why would any deity ask that I actually do that do my son?
