Diffrence between Golovkin and Kovalev?
Both are volume power punchers which he dont see much of that combination. Both have great fundamentals from their amateur careers that helped their balance and setting up offense. Heres some diffrneces I noticed:
GGG is one of the best Ive seen in coming forward while being in balance to punch (unlike say Canelo or Broner who come forward, set their feet then punch) disguising his offense making him harder to telegraph. He also has one of the better jabs, plus GGG is the very best at probing to set up offense which is an unconventional but very effective skill. And Golovkin has more punch verity, he throws every punch in the book correctly
Kovalev is more active but might be harder to counter or time cause he doesnt commit much to his punches making him more fluid offensively. He hides his chin better and is faster, because he doesnt commit in every punch allows him to be more effective in close range where GGG needs his space to punch so Kovalev is harder to smother (which Kassim Ouma did to GGG)
What more similarities or differences between the two

At 168lbs I'd take Kovalev.
Kovalev has clubbing power. His opponents have described that his shots feel very forceful, however he throws very awkward combinations and throws multiple shots. He times his shots very well and has a good snap, he is an excellent finisher.
GGG sets up his KO'd with his strong jab, he usually stops his opponents by attacking back by touching their gloves, and as you said, probes an offense. He's had an amaeteur record of 345-5 so I think he has gained alot of experience and uses tricks.

I think GGG is faster ad has better footwork and makes his punches count. I think GGG skill set is a bit more complete. Both guys have power to make guys **** their pants when hit.
