I need to buy a new trumpet?
So, I am currently attending Western Michigan University, and I am a trumpet major. However, the trumpet I came here with was actually a piece of junk. There were many intonation problems. I need to get a new trumpet (but cheap). I am very willing to buy a used one. The catch: my professor needs to try it out before a final sale can be made. Some big names create crappy trumpets. Just because it says Bach, it doesn't mean it's fantastic. I'm stuck in a rut. I'm currently borrowing my professor's, but he is retiring after this academic year. I need advise on how to look for a cheap, most likely used, acceptable trumpet. I would hate to buy one then have my professor say it's just as bad as my old one. Please Help!!

I was given an Odyssey trumpet for my birthday, it isn't the most expensive brand on the market but it sounds pretty good (and that's coming from a bit of a brass nerd). I'm a music student in Scotland and it had done me well so far. If you're short of money I'd definitely recommend it.
However, your best option is probably to speak to your professor and find out what he recommends. If he can think of a trumpet that would suit your playing style then you should be on to a winner. Also check out some ensembles in your local area (orchestras, jazz bands etc) and find out what the professionals are using, it'll give you an idea of what to expect from different models.
