Christmas is nothing to do with either Christianity or Islam but it does have it's origins in the midwinter festival and many other basically pagan rites but since much of it is a celebration of nature rather than religion everyone should be able to enjoy it and be happy together despite religion!
The ancient European pagans celebrated the midwinter festival and a number of other festivals long before Christianity ever existed!
Babylonians celebrated the feast of the Son of Isis with gluttonous eating and drinking, and gift giving and the goddess of fertility, love, and war.
The Romans held a festival on 25 December called “Dies Natalis Solis Invicti, celebrating their own god Sol Invictas – PAGAN!
The Persian god Mithras, the Syrian sun god Elah Gabal, the German Sol, the Greek Helios and the Mesopotamian Shamash. But also Saturnalia, honouring Saturn, the God of Agriculture. The law courts and schools were closed. No public business could be transacted an this is where the holidays originated - ALL PAGAN!
Wax tapers were given by the more humble to their superiors. The origin of the Christmas candle - PAGAN!
In Rome groups of costumed went from house to house entertaining their people. And this was where the carolling Christmas tradition originated PAGAN!
Statues of the Mother and lover or Mother and son were paraded through the streets not only in Italy but also in Africa, Spain, Portugal, France, Germany and Bulgaria. Thus, the symbolism of the Heavenly Virgin and the infant child paraded on a yearly basis are not of Christian origin. They stem from the Mother-goddess religion, which is very ancient ENTIRELY PAGAN!
Scandinavian countries celebrated Yule honouring Thor – PAGAN!
In Germania (not Germany) they celebrated midwinter night followed by 12 wild nights of eating and drinking. The 12 days of Christmas PAGAN!
The church under Pope Julius I declared that Christ’s birth would be celebrated on December 25 in 350 AD in order to try to hijack the PAGAN festivals but it was largely ignored. Christians did not really celebrate Christmas until 378 but it was then dropped in 381 and not resurrected until 400.
The Christmas tree stems from pagan tradition and ritual surrounding the Winter Solstice, which included the use of holly boughs ivy and other foliage as an adaptation of pagan tree worship. Holly and ivy represented male and female. Mistletoe was considered a sacred plant, and the custom of kissing under the mistletoe began as a fertility ritual - all PAGAN!
Santa Claus came from the Dutch “Sinterklaas” and was a tall figure riding a white horse through the air and usually accompanied by Black Peter, an elf who punished disobedient children. Also the origin of the reindeer, sleigh and the elves ALL PAGAN!
The modern red coated Santa was brought about by coca cola!
AMERICA ACTUALLY BANNED CHRISTMAS several times and is the originator of the expression “Happy Holidays” which came about because of the pagan origins of Christmas to include all religions and traditions!
The Venerable Bede, an early Christian writer pointed out that the Christian church absorbed Pagan practices when it found the population unwilling to give up the festivals. Thus a lot of what Christians now see as Christians practices are in fact pagan!
Christmas is the time of year christians strive to prove just how pagan they have become

Great question!
Many people around the world realize that the celebration of Yule and Christ has no connection whatsoever; but they would rather be "included" than left out of this big event that is worshipped by millions the world over.
There's something about mankind that makes them "follow" whatever leader comes along and says "do as I say" even when they know it's wrong. Just wait until the bills come in a few weeks after their celebration: that's when the suicides happen!
All they had to do was be true to themselves and not worry about keeping up with the Joneses.

Tradition.
Pagans celebrated the winter solstice as the Re-birth of the sun God. When they converted they still wanted an excuse to party and get drunk so they kept all of the holidays around the same time. Hollidays such as Easter, Christmas, and All Saints Day came from major pagan festivals.

Right so how many people are you gonna sacrifice to Saturn on Christmas Day then? Or do you prefer to do it on MÅdraniht instead? And you're wondering why Christians celebrate Christmas? Because its the official celebration date of their savior besides if modern day Christians have no right to celebrate Christmas then what right do Atheists then? Or what right do Neo-Pagans with no Celtic/Germanic/Roman lineage have in celebrating OÃche Shamhna, Saturnalia, or Jól? The fact is Christmas is not Saturnalia or Jól and the fact that it shares the date as them doesn't make the same, in fact my father was born on Christmas Day does that mean my family stole it from the oul Romans or Germanics? You skeptics really need to read more.

In a word.. chocolate.
I do believe if you put spangly lights and offered chocolate on the day people would celebrate the birth of Adolf Hitler himself. People have little or no regard either for the origins of a celebration or the principles involved if enough time has elapsed and goodies are offered; most people are not that deep. Why else do atheists celebrate Christmas (and most of them do).
Personally I have no problem with that, but I do take exception when people don't respect my decision to refrain on matters of principle.

When put in the proper light it's because their minds have been blinded by Satan (2 Corinthians 4:3-4) If, now, the good news we declare is in fact veiled, it is veiled among those who are perishing, 4Â among whom the god of this system of things has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, that the illumination of the glorious good news about the Christ, who is the image of God, might not shine through.
The God of this world is the wicked one (1 John 5:19) We know we originate with God, but the whole world is lying in the [power of the] wicked one.
James 4:4 says it best when it comes to the holidays of this world (James 4:4) Adulteresses, do YOU not know that the friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever, therefore, wants to be a friend of the world is constituting himself an enemy of God.
People know it's not when Jesus was born but their reply is, I don't put any religious meaning behind it, I celebrate because my family enjoys this time of the year and we all get together, they do this with many pagan festivals, easter, christmas and halloween, they ignore what the scriptures say, "Do Not Touch the Unclean Thing!"
They also think it's OK because their clergyman backs these pagan festivals, most that call themselves Christians do not know what the Bible says, take 2 Timothy 4:3-4 ( For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching, but, in accord with their own desires, they will accumulate teachers for themselves to have their ears tickled; 4Â and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories.)
2 Timothy 3:1-5 explains how so called Christians are today (But know this, that in the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here. 2Â For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, self-assuming, haughty, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, disloyal, 3Â having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness, 4Â betrayers, headstrong, puffed up [with pride], lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God, 5Â having a form of godly devotion but proving false to its power; and from these turn away.)
They ignore what is written at 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 (What! Do YOU not know that unrighteous persons will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not be misled. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men kept for unnatural purposes, nor men who lie with men, 10Â nor thieves, nor greedy persons, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit God’s kingdom.) Most Bibles use the word "effeminate" which means a homosexual act!
Just as verse 5 says at 2 Tim 3: 5 having a form of godly devotion but proving false to its power, they say they are Christian but they prove false to its power!

I do not see cheeseburgers in the Bible.
Pagans eat cheeseburgers.
Are cheeseburgers an evil thing that Christians should not eat?
You are not commanded to participate in the celebration of Christmas. If you choose not to, then feel free to not participate.
You are certainly not commanded to participate in the commercialization of Christmas, or the drinking, partying, and idol worship (santa) that takes place. In fact, you can find Scriptures that would tell you not to participate in such things.
Feel free to celebrate the birth of the Lord, even if you do not know the correct date of His birth. Or celebrate His birthdate during the spring or fall festivals, as there are many that would support His birth as being during those times.
Christians are Christians. They should be very careful about not including things in their celebrations that are pagan, or include traditions that they have no understanding about (yule logs, for example). What I often suggest to Christians is that they pray over their celebration. Don't leave the Lord out of His own party! Ask Him to purge anything that is not pleasing to Him. (You will probably find the santas and reindeers go first) and invite the Lord to lead you through the season.

Because Christmas is a wonderful holiday that brings families together. And the food is good too. That's why. Yes, I know it has pagan roots, just like a lot of things do. I wouldn't be surprised if saying bless you after someone sneezes has pagan roots. Are you going to stop every little thing that has pagan roots? It is a part of us, and that is alright. That doesn't mean that we are worshipping other Gods.

I don't understand it either. I do not believe in Christmas. I go to the family gatherings because it is important to my family that I be there but, I do not feel that it's right to celebrate that holiday.

It is just one more attempt at making a lot of money. Preachers do not want people to know the truth and neither do the merchants.
