why doesn't network sharing doesn't work on my new laptop?
ok, i'm having a bit of a problem with my new laptop and network sharing. the way i use network sharing is by going to the properties of the folder i want to share, go to advanced sharing, and check the "share this folder" box. then i just go to the "\\(Computer Name)-PC" and use the shared folders there. so my question is, what are the possible reasons as to why my new laptop isn't able to see the folders i want to share? the OS is Windows 7

you should never share a USER folder
always create a ROOT folder and share that. eg C:\sharethis
file and printer sharing must be enabled preferably on both.
The WORKGROUP should be the same between pc's
the IP's and IP'masks must match
eg
pc1 192.168.1.X mask 255.255.255.0
pc2 192.168.1.Y mask 255.255.255.0
because windows is so stupid, you may need to share something on both pc's
