how to play one long continuous note on the violin?

soo I have played violin for about four years now and have noticed some really good violin players can change their direction of bow and still sound like they are playing long notes. I really would like to learn this, and my music teacher is encouraging it, so if anybody can tell me how then well that would be nice.

Update:

lainiebsky:

I feel like I'm ready and can start advanced stuff now. I am one of the best people of the best orchestra in school of one of the best schools in the district.

I started to write something then realized your teacher would probably hate me for it. It's an advanced technique and it would be better for you to learn bow control one step at a time than to confuse yourself with something that should only be learned once your bow control is quite good.

EDIT: If you really are ready for advanced techniques your private teacher will cover them as needed. The overwhelming majority of people need to have taken lessons for far more than four years before they have complete bow control.

That technique is for the top dogs, you're not there yet. I don't think I could explain it in words anyway.
