Doesn't anyone make cheap LED utility lighting?
I'm looking for an LED fixture to replace the old ceramic sockets in my basement. Ideally I'd like something direct wired that would attach to a 4" round box just like the cheapo sockets do, and as flat to the box as possible so I don't hit my heat on them (I've broken a couple bulbs this way, and it isn't fun. Even worse if I were to use CFL.).
Whoever supplies a link for a product that closely resembles what I have in mind, gets five stars, points, eternal gratitude, and a hug from the next stranger you see.

If you have a low ceiling why not consider using a cover on that box that has angled threaded holes for flood style fixtures. With the socket coming off at an angle rather than straight down you wouldn't have as much problem with hitting your head on it. LED bulbs are made in all different bases and will fit the same sockets as standard bulbs so you don't need a special LED fixture. I just completed my new house and have all LED lighting with regular fixtures except for the outdoor security light I purchased as a unit with the motion sensor and light.
