Can a man safely lift a pregnant woman?

I'm writing a story where the main male character always likes to pick up and carry around his love interest. It's just his "thing" I suppose. After she becomes pregnant with his child, I have a scene where he lifts her and carries her back to his car because her feet are so sore. Aside from the obvious "he might drop her" is there any kind of medical reason he couldn't pick up and extremely pregnant woman?

At the end of pregnancy, she would weigh 26-30 pounds more than usual. Other than that, there's no problem with carrying her.
