How do computer repairmen activate windows?
Ok, I'm curious, but to all computer repair people out there i have a question. If someone brings you in a computer that is completely messed up, the OS is corrupted or virus filled or registry corrupted or what have you, and your only choice is to wipe the drive, after you do this how do you re install windows for the customer? is the customer forced to buy a whole another windows installation, or do you pirate it or something? Thank you!

No repair shop that is any good would use a pirated copy. Nor would they use one of their own multi licence keys for it. These are reserved for new installs, not repairs. They should ask the customer to provide the recovery disks that came with the machine. But a genuine MS agent could have access to copies that work with the keys for the machine, which is one reason all machines legally need to have a software key label. Checking the manufacturer's data for the machine by serial number will tell them what version was loaded. In case of doubt they should ask the owner to either buy a new copy, or get a recovery disk set from the manufacturer.

You can buy a windows key just about anywhere. No, computer repairmen don't pirate windows. It's easy to install. Just put in a disk and follow the instructions.

They sometimes have their own recovery discs that just load a clean copy of windows on. Some computers have the activation code for windows on the bottom on a little sticker, and you can just use that. Also, some recovery discs (like mine) auto activate it somehow when you load it.
