Is there anything more closed minded than to say "I'm an atheist"?
Anon and Michael - You obviously don't know the definition of 'atheist'. You are confusing 'atheist' with 'agnostic'.
Not exactly Michael. The atheist says 'there is no God I'm certain of it'. Where in the agnostic says 'I have seen enough evidence to be convinced God exist.' Major difference.

I think it's pretty arrogant and prideful of a mortal human being to say "There is no God." Who are any of us to say there's no God when we are far from knowing it all or living very long?

Christians really love not following the Bible, huh?
Wise Cracker: Double standard much? That same logic applies to your God. The difference is that we don't make a claim. You guys do.

Your stupidity is showing. Atheism and Gnosticism are not mutually exclusive -- the only difference is that one addresses lack of belief (atheist) while the other addresses knowledge (agnosticism.)
Most atheists dont assert knowledge thus fall under agnostic atheism. Most theists assert knowledge and thus fall under Gnostic theism.
Don't redefine words to suite your agenda.
a·the·ism
1. disbelief or lack of belief in the existence of God or gods.
ag·nos·tic
1. a person who believes that nothing is known or can be known of the existence or nature of God or of anything beyond material phenomena; a person who claims neither faith nor disbelief in God.
Please stop being dishonest. By its very definition, atheism makes no claim and agnosticism is a position on knowledge only.

One more thing. I am pretty tired of these types of arguments with theists. Ask a linguist if you need clarification rather then assuming you are right. That way you don't make yourself look stupid.

To say "There is no God" is saying we have closed our mind like a steel trap......Agnostics are 'on the fence' ....they are saying they are not convinced but open-minded about it.
I suspect atheism is mostly fuelled by fear of what will happen after they die.......You know.....make a lot of noise and maybe I can convince myself God is not real therefore I have an irrational fear.
The thing that is so pathetic about denying God is that God is the only source for getting rid of that fear.
Blessing ALL with believing and receiving to be free of fear.

Well, you're ignorant, naturally, of logic and even the most basic vocabulary you're using. Atheists don't believe in god(s) because there is no compelling evidence to do so. Our minds would change with appropriate evidence.

How exactly? Yes there is actually a lot more things like this
"You're going to be tortured unless you believe what i believe because I'm right and anyone that isn't in the same religion as me is wrong and deserves to be tortured!"
@Wise cracker most atheists (like me are) agnostic atheists
I agree with you that it is arrogant to make a claim saying you know 100% that there are no God(s) but the same goes with the people that say that there is a 100% chance there are God(s) It is arrogant to claim there is no chance of you being wrong.
Every-time I say there is no God i mean it like how Christians say there is no Zeus i accept there is a possibility that i am wrong and there are no God(s) but that is a small possibility

Imagine the day when you meet your creator. I believe it is the most disrespectful thing to God as I am certain of his existence. To say he doesn't exist? To think that we are all here of our own accord? Weird thinking imo.

Not true, I have considered religion before and I was religious for most of my life, I think I should have the right to call it nonsense.

Is saying "I don't accept things as factual until I have sufficient reason to" close minded?
Its not like were not willing to explore and learn about spiritual things, but accepting them as a belief (more so blindly) would be an act of incredible stupidity on our part.

You must do quite a bit of thinking to conclude: There is absolutely no God.

You must have an interesting concept for "closed minded."
Try this for closed minded, "My grandpa & grandma were baptists and my mommy & daddy were baptists and I was born a baptist and I'm going to die a baptist!"
