What is the effect of not taking your car for regular and prompt service?

I have just been wondering what determines the mileage at which a car should be taken for service (oil change) etc. Was this an arbitrary milegae or what is it based on? Secondly, not all cars are the same and not all cars are operated in the same way. That would generally determine the service intervals but looks like mechanics generalise and tell you to come at this particular mileage. Thirdly, what are the effects of not servicing the car at hose intervals: short term effects and long term effects?

What are noticeable and sublime differences in using mineral oils or synthetic oils: advantages and disadvantages?

its a result of two parts..1) regular care and servicing of it and 2) how we drive it.

servicing will keep a car in top performance conditions and pick up failing parts before waiting until something goes wrong. facts prove things such as changing oil and filters keep an engine working very much longer. brakes keep a car safe and so on.

if we ignore symptoms of issues it very often results in much worse condition and potentially loos of components or engine etc.

eg: vibration through steering wheel.. sign of wheel bearings/bushes /tyre problems etc.

over heating..ignoring a fix can literally 'ccok' and engine resulting in head needing skimming, loss of oil, coolant and even potential entire engine loss.

even running with dirty air filter can cost in fuel consumption and additional wear. late oil changes or wrong oil can result in ( often does) increased wear on components and potential failure of that part and even domino effect on other parts.

the newer synthetic oil have more durability and heat handling capabilities than mineral oil but if we change at correct periods or earlier not a lot to choose between.

synthetics have extra detergent added and so on. price will be higher. balance against use of engine/car. a racing car for example will fail if using mineral oils. a milk float can handle it easily as far les stress and heat etc. bottom line servicng and using correct oils and parts pays dividends long term.

Car manufacturers establish intervals by testing them in real life situations and come out with these intervals. You can try not doing any servicing to your car just for experiment.

Synthetic oil last longer and you can use if you want to have a longer time to change your oil. Other than that there is no difference from mineral oil.

If you tend to extend those intervals a bit but not excessively the only result is you will save money.

Synthetic oil allows extended run times between oil changes, some as much as ten thousand miles if used on the highway. I use synthetic oil even in my lawn mowers because they run cooler and do not foul up as much.

The manufacturers decide the service interval, not the mechanics. Check the owners manual.

Not servicing - increased likelihood of expensive failure, short life of engine, increased fuel costs etc. Also, since brakes, suspension and steering are included as service items, you would be more likely to crash.

Your insurance could be invalid if you fail to maintain the vehicle....

Short term saving is dubious, long term loss is virtually certain.
