Will I screw anything up driving with a bad transmission filter?

I've had the transmission rebuilt in the spring, just fixed my torque converter, 3 fuel injectors, intake valve and my computer.

It's a 1996 Dodge Ram 1500. Because the guy has fixed so much on my truck in such little time he's fixing the filter for free on Saturday. Will it hurt driving to work and back until then, about 200 miles?

There is no "repairing" a transmission filter. If the filter is plugged or not sealing in the port it plugs into you will fry the transmission and need a rebuilt one for at least $1,800. Why would you need a new filter if the tranny was just rebuilt?!! They should be good for at least 60,000 miles!

    No, it shouldn't.

But why wasn't it replaced when he was in there the first time? Sounds like this guy is not much of a mechanic. Are you certain you can trust him?

Maybe he was chatting with someone about his first transmission overhaul. Someone may have asked "Did you replace the filter?" To which he may have said "Was I supposed to?" Which may be WHY he's changing the filter with no charge to you.

I wonder what else he has missed.

    Hope this helps.

yeah it will slow the fluids from doing their job -- u can do the change urself -- suggest going on the web or the library and getting a repair book that will show u what u need. Go to the auto parts store near you and ask them ur question -- they are the guys ur goona buy the filter from anyway.

Shouldn't be a problem, but don't make it a habit.
