  • Did anyone else find the "TBs are bad for barrel racing" article extremely ignorant?

Or am I the only one? I have a family friend that started 4 off the track TBs on the pattern, one was sold and made it to the NBHA finals....

I've never dealt with off the track horses until one was given to me a few months ago. Now that he is solid and soft in flat work he has been started on the barrel pattern and picked it right up. Why do people think one breed can't do something?

Next article out : Quarter horses can't jump, too big bodied. LOL

  • How long until I see definition / results?

    I am a 20 year old female, 5'7 and 130 lbs

I eat 4-5 smaller meals a day, very healthy

I average 2 hours a week on the stair master, I leg press 250 lbs, squat 50, and this week started doing core exercises and run 2 miles, 3x a week.

My legs are muscular but I'm hoping to define them with running. Will it be a few months before I really see results?

  • What is a judge looking for in a green horse w/t class?

There is a local show coming up next month I'd like to attend. I have spoken with the women that run the show, and they were not helpful at all - borderline rude.

Long story short I have an OTTB that will be my barrel horse. He has not been on the pattern yet, were practicing lifting our back in collection, not hanging on one rein, and not falling in with our shoulder. He has a 'tude and from time to time throws a rearing hissy fit.

I do not have the prettiest seat at an extended trot - Can I post in a western saddle or will points be taken off?

Is the judging based on equitation? I have a steady, light hand and handle the occasional young horse "I'm gonna throw a fit because this is hard" thing well. he is coming along nicely I just dont always have perfect eq - shoulder hip to heel etc. I have trouble keeping my shoulders straight up, I tend to collapse.

I am riding in an o ring broken snaffle, and my barrel saddle. Should I use polo wraps or SMBs? I feel like an idiot.

  • Would someone be so kind as to share with me your kick butt apple pie recipe?

Hi all! Long story short, my boyfriend and I are going to visit his family since he has extended leave from a recent deployment.

Being from the south, I have always cooked and brought food as a thank you for their hospitality. This time I'm making several pies, and to me, an apple pie is a necessity.

Mine have been coming out terrible. Even my crusts! My boyfriend is not a fan of flakey crust, I've tried more buttery. Where I'm from you make your own - I've been irritated with myself, buying already made pills bury.

Help would be greatly appreciated, thank y'all in advance.

  • How will working in the round pen correct a barn sour attitude?

Long story short - my first horse is an OTTB I recently bought. Before anyone jumps on me I have worked with them before.

He is not as broke as I was led to believe "husband safe trail horse that needs a job" I have been lunging him and doing some very simple bringing head down, respecting my leg, bending to the inside workouts.

He is very high strung outside of the pen. I rode him out with my trainer yesterday, her on another horse on my outside so that he couldn't bow out towards the barn. Once he settled down we worked on some very basic walking straight and calmly away from the other horse.

I warned her that I could feel him get very tense when we were working in the direction of the barn. Twice he tried to run to the barn - rather than bust his butt, I gently corrected him with my leg and a sharp word and continued working as though nothing happened. I could feel that if I pushed him or did anything to make him too nervous, he would rear. I am not the most experienced rider, but I am always calm in the saddle.

My trainer was not satisfied with his misbehaving in that direction. She got on him to show me the proper way to block his attempts to run towards the barn, and she asked a little too hard because he began to rear. She calmly rode him into the round pen, and once he calmed down, got off and ended on a good note.

She suggested we work in the round pen for a while. He is not necessarily dangerous but this is a habit that could become so quicklY.

  • What are some pretty common faults of Dodge Ram trucks?

    I have a 4x4 1500, 1996 with 170k on it, 12k on the tranny (rebuilt last year)

I've put new ball joints, intake gaskets and a multitude of new things put on since I've bought it (over $5k) but I seem to run into a new issue every other month.

  • Can my trucks problems be related to bad gas?

1996 Dodge Ram 1500, 170k miles on engine, 12k on tranny

Repairs in the last year - oxygen sensors, idle air control valve, tranny rebuilt, new ball joints, serpentine belt change, intake gasket, water pump, throttle bone

Truck started blowing white smoke and I noticed I was low on coolant, after filling it it sucked down about 1/4 over night, then wouldn't start.

Took it to friend who looked at head gaskets and ripped it apart, got it running, determined it was bad gas. I've been getting my gas at the same 711 the past few months...Could this really cause my truck to refuse to cut on for me?

  • Where to begin with green OTTB?

    Hi there,

I got my first off the track TB over the weekend. Actually, as my first horse. I have worked at a HJ barn and done some long term leases on speed horses, but this is the first horse i've owned. My trainer, who will be helping to start him, is currently out of town.

The horse is 6 years old, was trail ridden w - t last year, and can canter some (very strung out and isn't very sure what to do) He's friendly enough, after 8 months of not being ridden he tried very hard for me at a walk and trot today. He aims to please and tries to be very gentle around people - my guess is he won't be very hard to bring along.

I have vet records and got him from the owner / breeder, he was not a very good racehorse and his race life was very short lived. He's happier with one person and on the trail.

So, to make a long story short - where do you begin? After bonding....He obviously saddles and bridles well, excellent ground manners....I'm looking on youtube at collection at a walk videos. I know my trainer will be ready and show me the way when she gets back, but i'd like to get an idea of what i'll be doing....

    Thanks everyone.

  • Has anyone else ever had their injuries whispered to?

I burned myself on some boiling water and the neighbor insisted on whispering to the burns to help them heal. No idea what she was saying.

My friends mama and an acquaintance of mine have heard if this / had it done but no one else has. I asked my fiancé if its happened to him before but he just laughed at me - Maybe it's just a southern thing? He hasn't heard of a lot of things I have.

I looked it up online and found nothing.

  • I am considering a career in massage therapy. Several questions?

I am 20 years old and currently an elderly caregiver...I have been in a relationship with the best person God could have given me since I was 14, and we recently engaged. My schedule is fairly hectic, and my fiancé is finishing his time in the marines on a base 4 hours away.

I have had a recent interest in massage therapy and am thinking of going to my local school for 14 months. I would like to have a flexible schedule, as My fiancé & I will be moving back to his hometown several states away when his service time is up, and he is my main priority.

So, I have some basic questions that may seem silly to the experienced massage therapist :

    1. How flexible are your hours? How long do you work (ie 9-3, 3-10)?

    2. Where do you work (from home, office, spa)?

    3. What sort of money did you make starting out verses now?

    4. What do you like best / worst about your job?

    5. Why did you choose to be a massage therapist?

  • Western pad for ill fitting saddle?

I have a fairly expensive barrel saddle that I love but never seems to fit any horse, wide or petite correctly.

It's FQHB. I'm currently riding a big Spanish bred horse in it, but it pops up in the back and seems like it pinches her shoulders - She's not comfortable, at a loose rein walk she often pulls down to relieve the pressure.

I've been to horse shows and seen these expensive pads that help distribute weight evenly and relieve pressure for saddles that are not well fitting. I do not want to give up my saddle but would like to give one of these pads a try. I'm not sure what they're made of, but the price range is usually 150 - 200$...They're popular with higher up barrel racers and folks in rodeo. Anyone know what the heck I'm talking about?

  • Why do we put people like Billy Ray Cyrus' Daughter and Oprah on a platform,?

while declaring a 70 year old Christian man from the backwoods of Louisiana has said a bunch of "hate speech" because he spoke the truth?

Need I remind anyone Ms. Cyrus licks hammers naked and jiggles around on married men and it is considered "art", while Oprah claims racism will not die until most white people do (That actually made me laugh...) and they are considered popular celebrities...

Is it like the bible says...In the last days, good will be considered bad by society and bad will be good? I did not see anything hateful in the duck dynasty mans interview. And even if it was, so what? You're offended, get up and change the channel...That's what normal people do.

  • Colon never clean, even after enema?

Not to be graphic...Fiancé wants to do anal sex. I have not done that since high school, and my diet has changed (for the better) since than. Stool is softer. I never used to use enemas but was fine.

I feel like I need to "clean up" before we try this so it doesn't go horrible and we have an accident...I have tried liquids only for 24 hours with two 16 oz warm water enemas but they don't come out clean, and I usually end up having a bowel movement soon after that.

Can anyone offer advice if you've been in a similar situation...Laxatives? I've been considering buying an enema bag from the local pharmacy but might die of embarrassment.

  • Two different ?'s - How to get a horse soft, and correct leads every time?

Recently bought a young beautiful buckskin. He's solid W-T-C, good brakes, side passes, very sane and willing. He has not had any major training on him which is why I bought him - young, cheap, and can train my way.

For the first two weeks he picked up the correct lead on his own, I believe we missed it maybe twice out of about 15 rides. The past 3 rides we have been getting them wrong. How do I go about fixing this, and picking it up correctly every time? I called my trainer who just said bring him back down to a trot and keep trying.

My second thing is, getting soft and bending. He is very stiff and tense in the saddle. After a few minutes he's less tense but I can't get him soft / a good bend out of him. What are some good exercises to build up to being soft, supple, and having a nice pretty bend? We ride in a basic o ring snaffle, if that helps.

  • Is the point of the two party system to divide us as Americans?

I see so many nasty comments thrown at people from other parties (for me, I always get them from liberals despite not even being a conservative...)

The typical republicans are stupid white hicks or rich folks that are racist, democrats are lazy ignorant fcks all on the welfare train...

Has anyone opened their eyes and thought for a minute, wow, the two party system is really corrupt. My party isn't always correct. Or do ya'll continue your "quit watching fox news" insults?

  • What are your interests outside of politics? What's daily life like for you?

I enjoy riding, fixing up my truck and working out...Lift heavy ladies, the whole weights make women bulky thing is a myth. Only thing it's done for me is given me tight arms and a nice sculpted booty. I also collect tactical / survival things like a nerd...purification tablets, acessories to guns, MRIs, you name it, I have it...

    Also, liberal or conservative? Independent?

I'm a former conservative now not stupid enough to have faith in any political party, they are all equally corrupt. More interested in not having such a big government, they should work for us, not the other way around...

What's your daily life like, and how do politics fit into that?

I'm an elderly caregiver. Some days I work 10 - 2, others 10 - 8. On my early off days I ride my horses, I work out every day. I make fun of people with Obama bumper stickers. Politics interest me because you can find out a lot about someone, just by seeing where they stand on certain political / social issues.

I'm 20 and have cannot obtain a concealed weapons permit. Does it need to be in view at all times, or can it not even by in my truck. Loaded or unloaded.

  • Will I screw anything up driving with a bad transmission filter?

I've had the transmission rebuilt in the spring, just fixed my torque converter, 3 fuel injectors, intake valve and my computer.

It's a 1996 Dodge Ram 1500. Because the guy has fixed so much on my truck in such little time he's fixing the filter for free on Saturday. Will it hurt driving to work and back until then, about 200 miles?

  • What do you think our future generation will be like?

With the majority of them not being taught manners, and apparently spanking your child is a crime these days? Everything is handed to them so they feel a sense of self entitlement?

Am I the only one worried we're creating a generation of lazy, self entitled, rude p*ssys (because there is no other word for it.)
