What is the law in Virginia for carrying your shotgun in your truck?

I'm 20 and have cannot obtain a concealed weapons permit. Does it need to be in view at all times, or can it not even by in my truck. Loaded or unloaded.

Need it for some coyotes at my barn that have been getting to close for comfort when i'm down there at night feeding...I live about 21 miles away from the barn, so I have to transport my gun there somehow...

§ 15.2-915.2. This section empowers the governing body of any county or city to, by ordinance, make it unlawful for any person to transport, possess or carry a loaded shotgun or loaded rifle in any vehicle on any public street, road, or highway within such locality.

So it depends on where you are.

A concealed carry would not matter for a long gun. It is illegal to conceal carry a shotgun or rifle. IOf you look at the site i provided you will see that some municipalities can prohibit loaded transportation. Counties can prohibit loaded carry of a gun used for hunting on public roads.

Looks to me like you carry the shotgun unloaded and in view. No problem.
