Why is it awkward between us? How do I get things back to how they were?

So they're a girl a school that i am into (we're in college). I was pretty convinced that she had feelings for me. Over thanksgiving break we'd text for a good amount of time each day for 4 days. We had gone out to dinner just as friends, and everything was great. So I decided to ask her out, and did. She accepted, i was ecstatic and shocked being that it was the first time i'd ever asked anyone out. The next day we got dinner, she told me that she just wanted to stay friends, and that we'd still go out just as friends. She said that she wanted to preserve the friendship and I was perfectly fine with it. I accepted the fact that those were her feeling and I could do nothing to change them. But, lately i've been thinking about her a lot. I feel that it's awkward between us, i just get a weird vibe between us now. I haven't really talked to her about it being awkward, i'm unsure of what to do. And i'm frustrated because, i feel it should be awkward between us but it is.

I also should note that i get really hung over girls, and this adds to my frustration. I just can't seem to get her out of my head. Any advice would be appreciated.

Update:

Do i talk to her about it or do I just deal with it myself?

Oh, and dinner was free since we just ate at the dining hall so it wasn't like i'd spent money on her.

Well, I'm 16, and a girl, so I'm not sure if what about to say well help you, but if you think it's getting awkward, you should talk to her. I'm not saying to tell her how you feel, but just talk to her like you would talk to your other friends. Pretty soon it won't feel awkward, and she'll just be another friend. But if you think talking to her will just make you fall for her even more, then maybe it's time to move on. It might seem impossible, but it's happened to me a million of times, so you can. It'll be hard but you got this.!

Hope this helped in some way c: And it might be different since you're in college and I'm in high school. Hope something works out though. :)

yes. get her out of your head. she told you point blank that she's not interested in you romantically but she fully intends to take advantage of your good nature by allowing you to pay for dinners out. save yourself some grief and MOVE ON. you do know what a zero is, right? it's a place holder. and you're a big fat zero to her. as soon as she finds a guy she likes you will no longer be "friends".
