how to keep jack russell busy in house?
Winter is here and we've already had a number of days when the temp stays in the teens and my jack does not like the cold. I put her coat on when she has to go potty but she wants right back in so I'm looking for ways to keep her occupied so she doesn't get too bored. Both her {Missy} and my other dog Mia will play tug of war but it only lasts for a few minutes for Mia then she doesn't want to play anymore. I'll play tug and throw her ball down the hall but she never seems to tire out and when I'm done playing she looks depressed. Any ideas on something that could keep her busy? She still gets a walk but because of the extreme cold we don't stay out long. We've had some snow already also and she really doesn't like it. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thought I would add that I also have a Chihuahua and a shepard lab mix so have to keep in mind that there are three other dogs in house besides Missy. The little Chihuahua is like a Hitler wanna be. She corrects the other dogs for anything and most days when I try to play with Missy I have to separate her from us so we can play.
Thank-you for your input Taylor and thank-you for remembering my little Hitler is there too. Missy does get all different kinds of bones but unlike your guy she doesn't stay focused on them for very long. It's probably because our household not only has the three other dogs but there are also five cats here to so there is always something going on somewhere in the house, she may be determined to kill it but she doesn't do it all at once. By the way, your little guy looks very peaceful.

Buy some puzzle toys to help keep him busy. They are toys that you stuff with treats, and the dog has to work the toy a certain way to get the treats out. Also sometimes just hiding treats around the house and letting your dog sniff them out and try to find them can be fun. And maybe find some fun tricks that you might want to teach him... training will often tire a dog out, and after about a 30 min training session he may be ready for a nap!

I have a Jack Russell myself but he is our only dog. We put a sweater on him as well but he constantly shivers outside so in the winter he does spend most of his time inside. We make sure he always has a bone to chew on. Jack Russell's will get so determined to "kill" or demolish whatever they are chewing on, that they won't stop until it's gone. Get a good bone, one with coating on it and not too large, maybe put missy in a room with you and leave hitler out for a bit, or get hitler a bone too! This method tires my little boy right out and he sleeps quietly while I get things done.

Put him in a crate with some toys in it. I keep my Jack Russell there for about 20 hours out of every 24 hours and it works fine!
