So our galaxy is really a barred spiral galaxy not just a spiral galaxy?

    Yes, I grew up being taught ours was a spiral galaxy until I found out a few years ago that the Milky Way was instead a barred spiral, which I think is more exotic and fascinating anyway.

    Yes. The bar is a relatively recent discovery, hence older texts describing it as a regular spiral.

    I was taught it was 1 black hole. but it is barred. its just another system.
