Get him a cd of his favorite band! And tape a note saying what you wanna apoligize. Hey, he should give you a gift!

Real Friends can't be bought with gifts.
Having said that, can you try to get something signed by a band that he likes? Plus there's lots on Green Day memorabilia of ebay http://www.ebay.com/sch/Green-Day-/104747/i.html
