Can I train when I still have a little bit of a cough and cold?
Hey, I have a lingering cough and cold. I have been resting for the past 1 1/2 weeks (my cough and cold lasted about a week but now it's just lingering a tiny bit) of training due to the cough and cold. I do want to get back into training but cause It's still lingering, I want to make sure It's "defiantly" out of my system.
So my question Is really, can I still train whilst my cough and cold Is still lingering?
It's so much better now but should I wait till It's completely gone or can I start now?
If so, as a mixed martial artist, can someone give me a some of your own personal advice what to do before I start going training again; or what would you normally do?
Thanks for any feedback (by the way, I know what to do before training again, I do just wait till it's completely gone; always have, but I would want to get training as soon as possible in future due to the fact I want to get somewhere, even a career in MMA. I hate resting but I would rather recover then hinder recovery time)
Thanks for any feedback If I get any haha

It would not be a smart nor considerate thing to do. Respiratory illness always has a risk of developing into pneumonia or other complications which can kill you. There have been many well known people who thought they could tough it out and force their body to take it only to die from it. Keep in mind that while you are coughing, you are contagious because each time you cough, sneeze, or even sweat - your body fluid contains the virus that made you sick.
I don't know where you live, but it's winter and 49F outside where I live. If I had a cold and cough, I would not expose my body to more stress when it is trying to heal. Remember that up until the 20th century, people use to died from a common cold because they didn't know better or had no choice because they had to work in the fields or factories. You have a choice.
As a martial artist, one of the most important things you need to learn is to listen to your body and know how to heal properly. There are some simple things you can do to help your body heal:
1) Gargle with warm salt water at least 3 times a day and EACH time you return home if you go outside.
2) Eat 4 to 6 serving of citrus fruits - not all at once. The vitamins C and others types of vitamins in fruits are better than what you get from vitamin tables. It will also sooth your sore throat and ease your cough.
3) Sleep. Get as much sleep as you can. Sleep is when your body does most of the healing.
If you are just dying to do something physically, stretch. Keep things in perspective. It's a cold and you will heal unlike some other people who have to face far worse diseases such as cancer.

Honestly that is up to you and how well or bad you feel. If you think you can do it without it interfering with your cold then go for it. Personally I wouldn't do it. I know how it goes. You're almost healed and feel guilty for not training. But you risk getting sick again. I would just wait a few more days and be completely healthy before I go and train. I know in the past when I have done that I usually start coughing really bad at the training and I still feel like I'm not at my full strength.

Actually training might help clear it out of your system a little faster so if you are almost over it and are not contagious to others anymore I would get back. You might have to take it a little easier and you will probably get winded a little faster than usual but there is no reason that you can not train at all.
Often when I feel a cold coming on and I go and train really hard and build up a good sweat I don't get really sick at all. I might feel a little crappy for a couple of days but that is usually the extend of it. With this I can not remember having been sick in many years. Only this year I got a cold really bad and I did not follow my own advice which I paid for.

No, don't do it. Here's why:
1) You could infect others
2) A sinus infection can spread to the ears - you lose balance, making this dangerous
3) Your stamina is already low, you won't perform at your best
4) An festering infection can spread to the lungs (pneumonia, bronchitis), lung outer lining (pleuresy), or to the heart - this can be fatal.
5) The body needs rest when sick, and mild exercise when on the mend - not exertion like martial arts

Seeing a doctor is the wisest thing to do especially if it won't go away.
Sure you could workout but if it's been hard to get rid of do you want a setback?
I also am worried about you infecting others.
With that said it really depends on if you're better or not, and if it's contagious.

The best thing to do is to go to a doctor so that he can check you out and see if every is ok before starting to excercise again
