Senkaku Islands Dispute?

So, what is going on? I seen on the news that Japan and China are having a huge argument about these 2 or 3 islands....so who owns them? Just the name "Senkaku" Suggests it belongs to Japan. It is undoubtedly a Japanese word.......Can anyone explain? Frankly it looks like these quarreling governments are spending hundreds of millions of taxpayers dollars (Yuan/Yen in this case) Over nothing...

Japans owns them officially, China claims to own them from centuries ago and wants them back because they may contain resources.

Money and prestige. The potential value of these specs of land is huge. Japan has controlled since 1895.
